Amateur life

I am 30, Welsh, and currently live in London

In my younger days I spent most of the waking hours on skis, and ended up racing Thomas Stangassinger 2 months before he won the Olympics. Armin Bittner, my hero, was also in the race. Funilly enough they both beat me.

After getting to uni my back problems escalated, and I discovered I had Ankyolosin Spondylitis, and figured it best to stick to a more reliable path

I spent the next 4 years studying Software Engineering at Imperial College. On the way I managed to get a placement at Avid Technology and went back to work there after I got my masters.

Professional life

Avid create lots of tools, mainly software, for film, post production and special effects. After 6 months they bought Softimage so I moved to Montreal. Thier software was used to model and animate the dinosaurs for Jurasic Park, and after getting the offer I did there was no way I could turn it down. I spent 2 very good years there working with some incredible people. Fantastically bright, interesting and with funny accents and cheap beer. It was an incredible envoronment to be in, well for 5 months a year anyway, the rest of the time was about -50, which i suppose in it's own way is equally an incredible envoronment to be in, but one you don't want to be in for long.

After that I came back to London, staying in the industry with Nucoda, and working in Soho, the epicentre of post production this side of the pond. During that time I also managed to spend 3 months working out at Sony VFX in L.A. before ending up putting in two years at Jim Henson's Ceature Shop.

I am currently C.T.O. of Midnight Transfer.

About the site

The role of this site is both as an outlet, in the sense of having some publishing space, and also as my personal portal to the web, the place were I start my day. It is updated sporadically, but frequently enough (I hope) to ensure a repeat visit now and then.

The site is created using any tools at my disposal, but whilst I now have access to tools like Photoshop I intend to keep the design quite simplistic. As always, any comments and sugestions are welcome. I test in both IE and Mozilla, but am also concerned about support for other browsers. If you are aware of any browser specific problems then please contact me. All that aside, all materials, photographs and works of art found on this site are copyright of paul shore.
